How To Set Up An Axolotl Tank

How To Set Up An Axolotl Tank

If you are new to keeping Axolotls and wondering just How To Set Up An Axolotl Tank for the first time, then this short video will be perfect for you where we explain everything you need:

The set up is relatively simple, with the main things required being:

-Glass Tank (Minimum 80 Litres for babies, larger for adults)

-Water Filter (Ensure it can go on a slow speed)

-Sand for bottom layer

-AquaSafe (Makes tap water safe)

-QuickStart (Live bacteria, allows you to safely add axolotl after 48 hours)

-Natural wood bark

-Real plants (Help to add oxygen and nitrates/phosphates to water)

NEXT STEPS:

  1. Add sand to empty tank
  2. Add cold water, then add AquaSafe and Quickstart, to make water safe for axolotl (Work out the calculations as per the bottle)
  3. Attach filter to side of the tank
  4. Add any decor, wood and plants (not too crowded for axolotls)
  5. Time to add the axolotl, read below on how to do so safely.

ADDING YOUR AXOLOTL TO THE WATER:

Once your tank is all set up with the equipment and the water has been treated to be safe for axolotls, it is very important to first float your Axolotl for 30 minutes within the plastic bag inside the tank.

Next you should make a small hole in the plastic bag and allow the water from the tank and bag to mix for another 30 minutes.

Now open the bag fully as your Axolotl should now be ready to fully release into your tank into their new home!

Don’t worry about the water in the bag, this is fine to add into the tank too.

We hope this guide has helped you with How To Set Up An Axolotl Tank and that you have been able to create the best home for your new Axolotl!
